Welcome to the GCES Counseling Page!
Hello! My name is Emily Greenberg and I am the School Counselor at Great Seneca Creek Elementary School. This is my first year here at GSCES and I am so thrilled to be a Bullfrog! Before I was a counselor, I was a teacher in MCPS for 6 years, I taught both 3rd grade and 4th grade reading. I received my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from the University of Maryland, College Park and my master's degree in School Counseling from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. In some exciting news, I am getting married this school year on April 4th! My Fiance Peter and I live in DC and love taking in all of the great experiences DC has to offer. I look forward to a great year here at GSCES. GO BULLFROGS!
My Role as School Counselor
I am here for the students. I am here to make sure that the students here at GSCES are receiving whatever it is that they need to be happy, successful and smiling. I will be in each classroom on a monthly basis to deliver lessons on topics that include social and emotional learning, personal body safety, mindfulness and self-regulation. I will also be working with students in both individual and group settings. I am so happy to LEAP with these BULLFROGS!
Social Emotional Learning at GSCES
Here at GCES, we focus on using Mindfulness to help us grow both socially and emotionally. Mindfulness is the practice of focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging out thoughts, emotions, physical feeling and bodily sensations non-judgmentally. Through this, we can achieve awareness and understanding of our minds, bodies and hearts.
